"Man's best friend"

When getting a dog/puppy it needs to have a comfortable, dry, draught-free quiet place to rest. Consider using a puppy crate as their safe haven.

Dogs have very specific dietary requirements and should be provided with a commercial high quality food appropriate to their age and size. Puppy food for puppies; dog food for dogs! They need clean drinking water at all times. The correct amount of food is the amount that keeps your pet at the correct weight; packet-feeding guides are just that, guides not rules.

Dogs are highly intelligent sociable animals and it is important that they have regular contact with people and other dogs from very early in life. And now the healthcare bit!

  • Have your puppy vaccinated – this can be started from 8 weeks of age.
  • Worm your dog/puppy – monthly until 6 months of age and then 3 monthly thereafter - all dogs have parasites but with regular treatment these are not a problem.
  • Microchip your puppy/dog – you may be surprised how little this costs.
  • Have your dog neutered unless you are going to breed from it and this means both males and females.
  • Insure your dog – it takes the financial worry out of serious problems.
